Program encourages top-ranked high school seniors to attend approved Missouri post-secondary schools. Must be a Missouri resident and a U.S. citizen or permanent resident. Must have a composite score on the ACT or SAT in the top 5 percent of all Missouri students taking those tests. Students with scores in the top 3 percent are eligible for an annual award of up to $3000 (up to $1500 each semester). Students with scores in the top 4% and 5% are eligible for an annual award of up to $1000 (up to $500 each semester). Award amounts, and the availability of the award for students in the 4% and 5%, are subject to change based on the amount of funding allocated for the program in the legislative session. Applicant must also not be pursuing a degree or certificate in theology or divinity.

M.D. "Jack" Murphy Memorial Nurses Training Scholarship

The M.D. "Jack" Murphy Memorial Nurses Training Scholarship is available to a Missouri boy or girl training to be a Registered Nurse, and may be used in their freshman or subsequent college years. The student must have graduated in the top forty percent of their high school class or have a "C" or equivalent standing from their last college or university semester. The scholarship may, by application, be extended for a second year. Basic criteria for the scholarship awards require the students to be under the age of 21, unmarried, and a descendant of a veteran with at least ninety days active service in the U.S. Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines or Coast Guard, who received an Honorable Discharge for such service. A photocopy of the veteran's DD 214, discharge or separation notice must accompany the scholarship application. Any additional requirements for each scholarship are on the reverse side of the application. Chapter 17 - St. Louis Scholarship

The Chapter 17 - St. Louis Scholarship is for students enrolled in a manufacturing engineering, industrial technology or other manufacturing related program. First preference will be given to applicants who reside within the boundaries of St. Louis Chapter 17. Second preference will be given to applicants who reside within the state of Missouri.
Charles P. Bell Conservation Scholarships

The Charles P. Bell Conservation Scholarships now include one graduate scholarship and one undergraduate scholarship. Graduate applicants must be enrolled in a field of study related to conservation, natural science or earth resources at an accredited college or university. The NSL Program is a competitive state program that awards funding to Missouri residents attending a Missouri institution pursuing education leading to careers as licensed practical nurses or professional nurses. Applicants must meet the qualifications associated with the program provisions and agree to work in a Missouri Health Professional Shortage Area (HPSA), upon completion of training. Students must be enrolled or accepted in an eligible nursing program in a Missouri institution leading to one of the degrees/licenses available on the scholarship's website. Applicants may also submit their applications and documents via fax, email, or mail.
What types of scholarships are available for students?
Need-based scholarships
These are scholarships for students who have demonstrated a financial need. There’s no universal number or set income level that tells you if you qualify. How each scholarship defines what financial need means varies. The federal government as well as specific organizations, corporations, and colleges/universities/schools offer need-based scholarships.
Merit scholarships
Merit scholarships are for students who have shown high academic, athletic, or extracurricular achievement over their high school careers. Not all schools/colleges offer merit-aid—highly selective schools typically don’t. The process for applying for merit scholarships varies. For merit scholarships offered through colleges and universities, you generally don’t have to do anything other than complete the application to the school itself. For some schools, you need to submit the FAFSA® to be eligible.
Career-specific grants or scholarships
These are awarded to students who know they want a career in a specific industry. Maybe they know they want to be a teacher, a nurse, or an engineer. To be eligible for grants, students must submit the FAFSA®. To find career-specific scholarships, try searching for your major and “association.”
Community or nonprofit scholarships
Nonprofit and community organizations often receive funding from donors to create scholarship programs for students who need them.
Tips for successful scholarship applications
- Pull together everything you need for the application including transcripts, so you can submit a complete scholarship application.
- You may need a recommendation letter or letters for a scholarship. Ask a teacher, employer, or someone else who knows you to write one for you—and be sure to give them enough time to do it.
- If you’re writing a scholarship essay, follow the prompt, answer the essay question completely, and write from your experience. A few well-written essays that you can reuse for different scholarship applications can really pay off.
- Highlight your strengths and achievements in your application.
- Talk about your financial need and what you would use the scholarship money for if you won. How would it help?
- Have to interview for a scholarship? Dress to impress in a professional outfit. And do your research! Look into how/why the scholarship was created. Try to bring up why it’s meaningful to you. Also, don’t forget to send a thank-you note afterwards.
- Keep track of all the deadlines for the scholarships you’re applying to. If you miss one, they may not extend the due date.
- Apply for scholarships year after year, all through college. As you continue your studies, gain more experience, and try new extracurricular activities in college, you might be eligible for more scholarships you weren’t originally qualified for.
