Students studying any field of study at any institution are eligible. The Pennsylvania State Grant Program is open to high school graduates as stipulated in the PA State Grant law who attend a postsecondary school approved by PHEAA for PA State Grant purposes. Applicants must be enrolled at an institution that is not headquartered and domiciled in Pennsylvania and must be enrolled in a program of study where at least 50 percent of the total credit or clock hours needed for completion of the program are earned through classroom instruction: 1. The program itself must be structured to allow students to complete at least 50 percent of their credits or clock hours in the classroom. 2. The enrollment pattern by term must also consist of at least 50 percent classroom instruction (unless the student has a medical disability (PDF)). American Legion High School Oratorical Scholarship Program

Each District will conduct an Oratorical Contest for high school students in grades 9-12, including those homeschooled in your school districts. Speech must be student's original work on the general subject of the Constitution. Speech contests begin in December at local Legion post level and continue on to the national competition.
SBS of New York Graduate Award

The SBS of New York Graduate Award may be awarded to the graduate students with the highest cumulative Grade Point Average. Applicants or one of their parents must be a Swiss national. Applicants must be U.S. residents. They must be permanently domiciled in either New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Pennsylvania or Delaware for two years or more. Applicants must have excellent academic standing and show aptitude in their chosen fields of study. The application form together with the applicant's or their parent's proof of Swiss citizenship; proof of U.S. citizenship or U.S. residency; and proof of cost for tuition, room and board must be submitted by March 31. Official transcripts; and two current letters of reference from professors in the applicant's major area of study must be submitted by April 30. PEGP honors individuals who lost their lives protecting the citizens of Pennsylvania by helping their children fund their education. MA, RI, CT and Long Island, NY, most of VT and NH, portions of ME, eastern NY and northeastern sections of PA and NJ. The recipient must be 22 years or younger as of June 1 of the year of the grant. Dr. Michael Dorizas Memorial Scholarship

The Dr. Michael Dorizas Memorial Scholarship honors the late Dr. Michael Dorizas, a widely respected educator, lecturer and athlete. Applicants must be enrolled in a degree program at an accredited four-year college or university, or they must be high school seniors accepted for enrollment in such a degree program, and have outstanding academic qualifications. Applicants must also be of Greek descent or a student who has declared major in Hellenic Studies, regardless of heritage. High school seniors may submit their SAT/ACT scores, if available. One recommendation letter is required for undergraduate scholarships. For high school seniors, letters from guidance counselors, academic advisers, teachers, or professors are preferred. Letters from personal acquaintances are to be avoided if possible. For undergraduate students, letters from university professors are preferred but letters from internship supervisors are considered appropriate. Two essays are also required. What types of scholarships are available for students?
Need-based scholarships
These are scholarships for students who have demonstrated a financial need. There’s no universal number or set income level that tells you if you qualify. How each scholarship defines what financial need means varies. The federal government as well as specific organizations, corporations, and colleges/universities/schools offer need-based scholarships.
Merit scholarships
Merit scholarships are for students who have shown high academic, athletic, or extracurricular achievement over their high school careers. Not all schools/colleges offer merit-aid—highly selective schools typically don’t. The process for applying for merit scholarships varies. For merit scholarships offered through colleges and universities, you generally don’t have to do anything other than complete the application to the school itself. For some schools, you need to submit the FAFSA® to be eligible.
Career-specific grants or scholarships
These are awarded to students who know they want a career in a specific industry. Maybe they know they want to be a teacher, a nurse, or an engineer. To be eligible for grants, students must submit the FAFSA®. To find career-specific scholarships, try searching for your major and “association.”
Community or nonprofit scholarships
Nonprofit and community organizations often receive funding from donors to create scholarship programs for students who need them.
Tips for successful scholarship applications
- Pull together everything you need for the application including transcripts, so you can submit a complete scholarship application.
- You may need a recommendation letter or letters for a scholarship. Ask a teacher, employer, or someone else who knows you to write one for you—and be sure to give them enough time to do it.
- If you’re writing a scholarship essay, follow the prompt, answer the essay question completely, and write from your experience. A few well-written essays that you can reuse for different scholarship applications can really pay off.
- Highlight your strengths and achievements in your application.
- Talk about your financial need and what you would use the scholarship money for if you won. How would it help?
- Have to interview for a scholarship? Dress to impress in a professional outfit. And do your research! Look into how/why the scholarship was created. Try to bring up why it’s meaningful to you. Also, don’t forget to send a thank-you note afterwards.
- Keep track of all the deadlines for the scholarships you’re applying to. If you miss one, they may not extend the due date.
- Apply for scholarships year after year, all through college. As you continue your studies, gain more experience, and try new extracurricular activities in college, you might be eligible for more scholarships you weren’t originally qualified for.
