The West Virginia Higher Education Grant is a need-based financial aid program designed to ensure West Virginia students with financial need are given an opportunity to pursue post-secondary education. Applicants must be a high school graduate or have earned a high school equivalency diploma. Applicants must enroll at a participating institution in West Virginia or Pennsylvania and must have not previously met the requirements for a bachelor's degree. MANTS, an association formed from the state nursery and landscape associations of Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia, has established this scholarship with the Horticultural Research Institute (HRI) with the belief that the strength and future success of the horticulture industry lies in the solid education of today's students. Through this scholarship, MANTS will provide scholarship opportunities to qualified students to help ensure the continuity of the nursery and landscape profession. Attendance at an institution within the MANTS member states is not mandatory. Applicants must have at least a junior standing in a four-year curriculum or senior standing in a two-year curriculum as of the fall semester of scholarship application year. Applicants must be enrolled in good standing. Applicants must have a minimum overall GPA of 2.7, and a minimum GPA of 3.0 in their major. Preference will be given to applicants who plan to work within the industry (including nursery operation; landscape architecture, design, construction, or maintenance; interiorscape; horticultural distribution; or retail garden center) following graduation. Previous Carville M. Akehurst Memorial Scholarship award winners are eligible for additional funding and may reapply for the scholarship. Applicants must submit two letters of recommendation. The West Virginia University - Promise Scholarship is available to graduating high school students with a 3.0 GPA or better. This award is valued at up to $5,500 per year for up to four undergraduate years. Promise cannot exceed the cost of tuition and fees not covered by other tuition-specific aid. The Bucklew Scholarship is available to WV resident students who attend and graduate from a West Virginia high school. Students must be admitted to WVU as first-time freshmen by January 16, 2024. Home-schooled students who are WV residents must be home-schooled for at least their senior year to be eligible to apply. Students eligible to apply will receive additional materials by mail for completion starting in late November 2023. The West Virginia University - Foundation Scholarship is available to WV resident students who attend and graduate from a West Virginia high school. Students must be admitted to WVU as first-time freshmen by January 16, 2024. Home-schooled students who are WV residents must be home-schooled for at least their senior year to be eligible to apply. Students who meet the admission deadline will be considered for scholarships based on the submission of new high school transcripts or ACT/SAT scores if the information is updated on their WVU student record. This scholarship covers the cost of attendance as determined by financial aid for up to four undergraduate years or completion of a bachelor's degree - whichever comes first, plus a one-time $4,500 stipend for study abroad or academic enhancement. Students receiving the Promise Scholarship will receive the Foundation Scholarship less the Promise Scholarship amount. The Steve Bayless Undergraduate Scholarship was established for the purpose of encouraging talented high school seniors from the region to pursue a major in Theatre at a college or university within the SETC region. Applicants must be a high school senior who lives in the SETC region and be planning to enter an accredited undergraduate college or university within the SETC region with the intention of majoring in theatre.
