The POW-MIA Tuition Benefit Program is open to any child born or adopted before or during the period his or her parent was officially declared a prisoner of war (POW) or person missing in action (MIA) after Jan. 1, 1960. The child must attend either a public or private institution in NJ. A copy of DD 1300 must be furnished with the application. Please contact the Veterans Benefits Bureau for more information and inquiries about the application.

These grants are reserved for children of those Soldiers of the 1st Cavalry Division who died or were totally and permanently disabled as a result of wounds received or disease contracted while serving with the 1st Cavalry Division in any armed conflict and children of members of the Association who die while serving with the 1st Cavalry Division in peacetime. The Russell and Sigurd Varian Award aims to recognize and encourage excellence in continuing graduate studies in the sciences and technologies of interest to AVS. The nominee must be a registered Graduate Students in an accredited academic institution at the time when the applications are due. Applicants are normally expected not to graduate before the award selection. The award may be given to a particular individual only once. Following the Awards Committee Meeting in the Spring or Summer, the top eight student nominees are notified and invited to present talks on their research to the Awards Committee in a virtual interview in late summer. After the interview, one of the top three students of the eight finalists will receive the Varian Award. Criteria for selection of the awardee are excellence in research and academic record. The New Investigators Research Grant is designed to help further new investigators' research activities by funding one-year, preliminary studies that could launch larger-scale research studies. Research, while not limited in topic, should be focused to match a one-year scope and should have clinical relevance to audiology and/or speech-language pathology. The investigator must have completed a PhD or equivalent research doctorate in communication sciences and disorders within the past five years (since 2018). Students currently enrolled in a degree program are not eligible for this research grant. The proposal should be in a one PDF document containing all required sections in the order indicated: Investigator Letter, Research Abstract, Research Plan, References and/or Appendices, Management Plan and Budget, Investigator Biographical Sketch, IRB Approval (Human Subject approval), Key Personnel (optional), Letter of Institutional Commitment; and Letters of Support (optional). Additional attachments will not be accepted. The ASH Foundation requests that potential investigators complete an Intent to Submit Form by March 1 to provide information regarding their proposed studies. The OREF Clinical Research Award recognizes outstanding clinical research related directly to musculoskeletal disease or injury. The lead author must be a member (or candidate member) of the AAOS, ORS, Canadian Orthopaedic Association (COA) or Canadian Orthopaedic Research Society (CORS). Manuscripts should be original and represent a large body of cohesive scientific work generally reflecting years of investigation.
