Vertical Flight Foundation Scholarships awards scholarships to college level students who demonstrate an interest in pursuing engineering related careers in vertical flight technology. A student does not need to be a member of The Vertical Flight Society. Technical disciplines relevant to complex aeronautics engineering or aviation systems, even if not considered vertical lift engineering, will receive equal consideration. Professor Letter of Recommendation and Narrative is required. Narrative should provide a personal statement regarding your passion for aeronautics/aeronautical engineering and it should not be a restatement of your resume or description of research. The Father James B. Macelwane Annual Award was established to stimulate interest in meteorology among college students through the submission of original student papers concerned with some phase of the atmospheric sciences. The student must be enrolled as an undergraduate at the time the paper is written, and no more than two students from any one institution may enter papers in any one contest. The Society encourages applications from women, minorities, and disabled students, traditionally underrepresented in the atmospheric and related oceanic and hydrologic sciences. The following must be submitted: a letter of application from the author, including mailing address and email, stating the title of the paper and the name of the university at which the paper was written; a letter from the department head or other faculty member of the department, confirming that the author was an undergraduate student at the time the paper was written, and indicating the elements of the paper that represent original contributions by the student; and the Student Assessment form completed by the department head or other faculty member of the department. The American Society of Naval Engineers began its scholarship program in 1979 in order to promote the profession of naval engineering and to encourage college students to enter the field. Scholarships will be awarded to support an undergraduate student or one year of graduate education. Undergraduate candidates must be full-time students enrolled in a minimum of 12 credit hours. Graduate students must be full-time students enrolled in a minimum of 9 credit hours. Applicants must list the names of three persons from whom they have requested letters of reference, and indicate in the application whether letters are attached or were forwarded separately. Eligible programs of study are Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering, Ocean Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, Engineering Technology, Applied Mathematics and Physics, and other relevant professions as accepted by the ASNE Scholarship Committee. The Dairy Shrine Student Recognition Award for Seniors recognizes graduating four-year college seniors planning a career related to dairy (production agriculture, manufacturing, marketing, agricultural law, business, communications, veterinary medicine, research and environmental sciences) who have demonstrated leadership skills, academic ability, and interest in dairy cattle. Only two applicants per college or university are accepted for this contest in any given year. The total number of awards will be determined by the number and quality of applicants. Applicants must send one letter of recommendation from the department chair or a faculty member who is familiar with the applicant's activities and academic achievements. The Elizabeth Gardner Norweb Summer Environmental Studies Scholarship aims to encourage studies and careers in the environmental field, with the opportunity to gain knowledge and experience beyond the regular course of study. This scholarship provides financial assistance to one student annually for field work, research, or classroom work in the environmental field. Eligibility is open to U.S. Citizens and permanent residents who are enrolled in a U.S.-based institution. Two letters of recommendation are required. One should include comments on your academic progress and achievement, personal qualities, and eligibility for the program you have selected. The other should include information on the program you have selected and assurance that you have applied and can be accepted. Applications must be submitted electronically or sent by mail to be received at GCA Headquarters in New York City. The American Respiratory Care Foundation will be awarded in memory of Jimmy A. Young, past president of the AARC, who personally contributed greatly to respiratory care education. The foundation prefers that nominations be made by a representative of the school or an accredited respiratory training program, however, any student may initiate a request for sponsorship in order that a deserving candidate is not denied the opportunity to compete simply because the school does not initiate the application. Preference will be given to nominees of minority origin. This award consists of a certificate of recognition, coach airfare, one night's lodging, and registration for AARC Congress. An original referenced paper on some aspect of respiratory care is required. The paper should include a cover page giving only the title of the paper. Applicants must also provide letters of recommendation from the program director or other senior faculty member and from the medical director or other physician instructor attesting to: a) approval of candidate's paper, b) candidate's worthiness for the award, and c) candidate's potential for a career in the profession of respiratory care. The Morton B. Duggan, Jr. Memorial Education Recognition Award is awarded to a student currently enrolled in an accredited respiratory care education program. Preference will be given to candidates from Georgia and South Carolina. An original referenced paper on some aspect of respiratory care is required. Applicants must also provide letters of recommendation from the program director or other senior faculty member and from the medical director or other physician instructor attesting to: a) approval of candidate's paper, b) candidate's worthiness for the award, and c) candidate's potential for a career in the profession of respiratory care. The PHCC Educational Foundation and its industry partners are teaming up to provide financial assistance to students pursuing a career in the p-h-c industry. Applicants must be currently enrolled in or plan to enroll in: (1) A PHCC-approved plumbing or HVACR apprentice program or the Foundation's Fast Track to Service & Repair online courses. Apprentices or technicians must also be working full-time for a licensed plumbing or HVAC contractor who is a member of the Plumbing-Heating-Cooling Contractors-National Association. Approved courses of study are plumbing or HVACR installation, service and repair. Check to see if your employer is a member of PHCC here. (2) A full-time certificate or degree program at an accredited two-year community college, technical college, or trade school, with a major directly related to the plumbing-heating-cooling (p-h-c) profession. Approved majors are: business management; mechanical CAD design; construction management with a specialty in mechanical construction; and plumbing or HVACR installation, service and repair. (3) A full-time undergraduate degree program at an accredited four-year college or university, with a major directly related to the plumbing-heating-cooling (p-h-c) profession. Approved majors are: business management; construction management with a specialization in mechanical construction; and mechanical engineering. The program is also open to Canadian citizen apprentices enrolled in a PHCC-approved plumbing or HVACR apprentice program. Canadian applicants must also be working full-time for a licensed plumbing or HVAC contractor who is a member of the Plumbing-Heating-Cooling Contractors-National Association.
